He has been playing music since he was 6 years old, and began playing for church on Wednesday nights at his childhood church when we has 14. Since then, he has served in various musical areas at a number of churches and ministries. Canon came to know the Lord at a young age as his parents faithfully disciplined him and shared the gospel with him. Along with a calling to serve in music ministry, he has a heart for evangelism, service to the body, and teaching. Canon is from Texas, and will probably let you know if you talk to him for any significant period of time. He also had the great fortune of marrying the most beautiful girl in the world, Julianne, who happens to be Roger Horning’s daughter. She is also contributing to the worship ministry at Foothills by her gifts in administration, leadership, musical ability, and wisdom.

  • Jim and his wife, Jayne, met at UCLA and have been married for 41 years. They have three children and six grandchildren. Jim became a Christian while attending UC Santa Cruz in 1977 and later transferred to UCLA, where he joined AGO, a Christian fraternity, and met Jayne.

With a BS in Chemistry, Jim spent 38 years in technical sales and management roles in the food industry. Throughout their marriage, Jim and Jayne moved frequently due to his work, often getting involved in Sunday School and nursery ministries at smaller churches.

Since joining Foothills in 1998 after returning from Philadelphia, Jim and Jayne have served in various capacities. They taught Sunday School and led the Billy Graham Telephone Ministry until 2016. Jim served on the worship team from 2009 to 2015 and recently rejoined. Together, they have also led the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox ministry with their life group. Jim currently leads a Friday evening life group and has served as an elder twice, from 2016 to 2021 and again starting in 2022.

Jim and Jayne value Foothills for its strong community, commitment to prayer, and solid Bible teaching that continues to challenge their faith.

Eddie Sobrito

  • Born in California, I spent my childhood in the small town of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, after my family moved east. I graduated from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management Information Systems. During college, I worked at a major financial institution, a path that led to my current role as a financial advisor. In my work, I strive to honor God by helping others steward the resources He has entrusted to them.

Early in my career, I seized an opportunity to work in the Philippines, where I lived for four years. There, I met my wife, Christine Joy (CJ). We married and moved to the U.S. a year later, and we currently live in Mission Viejo, where we are raising our four boys: Alex, Dominic, Bradley, and Caleb.

Our journey to faith began through God’s providence, on the day we moved into an apartment in Torrance when Bradley a newborn and Alex and Dominic were still young.  A neighbor, providentially happened to be from the Philippines, boldly invited our boys to Vacation Bible School and a midweek Bible study the very first time we ever talked to one another. This divine encounter met us in a time of need, and God has been faithfully transforming our lives ever since and to this day we remain close to this family.

Since becoming a Christian, I’ve sought to serve the church with the gifts God has given me. At Foothills Church, I serve as an Elder, as a worship team member, youth group support leader, and help teach membership classes. My family has been deeply blessed by this community, and we’re grateful for the ways God has worked through its members. A major highlight during our time at foothills was witnessing our eldest son give his life to Christ, an answer to the faithful prayers of many at Foothills who until now continue to guide and support him.

Together with CJ, our passion is to encourage and equip a new generation of believers at Foothills. I’m excited to see how God will continue to use our church for His glory and am thankful for the privilege of being part of His kingdom work.

    Favorite Bible Verses:

    Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Daren Fennell

  • Daren grew up in Santa Clarita, CA as the middle child in a family of five. God graciously blessed him with a loving home. But it wasn’t until the age of 19, after a period of intense searching, that Daren came to trust in Christ for the removal of his sin-guilt. He has been walking with Jesus for over two decades and aims to steward the good gifts God has given him.

Daren holds an Associate’s degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor’s degree in Bible Exposition, and a Master of Divinity from The Master’s University. His work experience includes 10 years on church staff overseeing Children’s Education and Community Groups, and teaching Math and Bible at a Christian school. He then spent 8 years as a Project Manager and Chief Operations Officer at a software development company, called Fishermen Labs. He is currently the Associate Pastor at Foothills Church.

Daren’s ministry experience includes leading Bible studies, overseeing a youth outreach program, leading Christian Education and Community Group programs, as well as participating in mission trips to Haiti, Canada, and India. At Foothills Church, Daren has been involved in Bible studies, Welcome Team ministry, men’s events, and also plays drums for the worship team.

Daren believes that Jesus will build his church, and that it is a privilege to play a small part in this great work!

Justin Werth

  • Justin has been married for 18 years and is blessed with two daughters. Though he grew up in the church, it wasn’t until his 23rd birthday that he truly understood the depths of his sin and the grace found at the cross. That day, in prayer, God revealed His love to Justin, and since then, he has been joyfully dedicated to following Christ.

Justin holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in secondary education. He has been a Drama and English teacher since 2005. Alongside his wife, he has served in children’s ministry for the past 11 years. Currently, Justin works as the Youth Director at Foothills Church.

Since joining Foothills Church, Justin has been actively involved in youth and children’s ministries, and has co-planned and assisted Pastor Craig with summer outreach events and VBS.

Justin and his family were drawn to Foothills Church because they were seeking a community that faithfully teaches the Bible. They have found much more than they expected—receiving support during their daughter’s scoliosis treatment and forming deep bonds with loving and encouraging members. Justin and his family are grateful to be part of the Foothills community and excited to continue their journey here.

John Belletto

  • My wife Debbie and I have been married for 20 years and have been blessed with the privilege to raise two amazing boys together; Kaleb (17) and Joshua (10). Though I had spent time in and out of church in various parts of my life, it wasn’t until 2011 when I became a Christian and a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Immediately following my high school graduation, I served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years. After completing my enlistment, although it took a while, I eventually earned a B.S. in Biology with an emphasis in Physiology from Cal State Long Beach. For the past 15 years I have worked in the biomedical device industry doing Research and Development and project management. Once I was saved, I couldn’t get enough of studying God’s Word and began taking Bible college classes. I eventually transitioned to seminary, where I completed a Masters of Divinity at Talbot School of Theology.

Over the past 14 years, I have served the church in a variety of capacities. My wife and I have served together in Youth Ministry, Young Adults, and Young Marrieds/Family Ministry as we focused on mentorship, personal discipleship, and counseling. I have taught various bible studies, Sunday school classes, and have co-led international missions trips. In 2018, I was ordained and served as Associate Pastor of a church in Yorba Linda for 2 years prior to moving to South county in 2020.

My family and I were looking for a small, local bible-teaching church where we might be able to use our gifts to serve the body and build community. In 2022 we found exactly what we were looking for at Foothills Church. As we have been at Foothills for 3 years now, I have served on the Welcome Team, Security Team, I play mediocre guitar for Sunday Worship a couple times a month, and serve out my passion for global missions on the Missions Board. Debbie and I currently lead a life group from our home and every once in a while, Pastor Roger has given me the honor and opportunity to preach on a Sunday.

We love the church family at Foothills, and are excited and blessed to be part of what the Lord is doing, both in and through this amazing body of believers.
